LEGO Astro Bot 40899: Set Overview and Key Specs
LEGO Astro Bot 40899 is the first official LEGO set based on PlayStation's beloved Astro Bot character, and it arrives as a gift with purchase rather than a standalone retail set. LEGO has done an impressive job capturing Astro's signature look with a relatively small piece count, making this one of the most desirable promotional sets in recent memory.
Video Highlights:
- Official reveal of LEGO set number 40899 with clean images
- 276 pieces, roughly 20 cm tall, with very few exposed studs
- Swappable eye expressions, turning head, and repositionable arms
- Display stand poses Astro mid-air with blue propulsion jets
- Likely tied to purchases of the new brick-built LEGO PlayStation
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Set number | 40899 |
| Piece count | 276 pieces |
| Height | Approx. 20 cm |
| Availability | Gift with purchase only |
| Launch date | October 1, 2026 |
| Duration | While stocks last |
Astro's smooth white and blue body is faithfully reproduced with almost no exposed studs, which suits the character's rounded, glossy look. The set also includes a logo tile that appears to be printed rather than a sticker, plus a small cape on the back.
Build Features and Display Options
Despite the modest piece count, LEGO packed a surprising amount of articulation and personality into 40899.
Articulation
- Head turns for left-right posing
- Arms can be repositioned
- Suited for dynamic display angles
Swappable Eyes
- Two expressions included
- Normal round eyes
- Curved expression eyes
Display Stand
- Poses Astro in mid-air
- Blue propulsion jets under feet
- Stand is not transparent
Because the stand is opaque, there is no floating illusion — Astro is clearly supported. Still, the stand lets you capture his iconic flying pose alongside the brick-built LEGO PlayStation console, which itself hides mini Ape Escape and Gran Turismo dioramas inside.
This set is clearly designed to sit next to the new brick-built LEGO PlayStation. If you already own or plan to buy that console set, LEGO Astro Bot 40899 is the natural companion display piece.
How to Qualify: Two Likely Scenarios
Here is the tricky part: at the time of writing, LEGO has not officially confirmed the exact qualification requirements. Based on the original leaks and LEGO's listing behavior, expect one of two scenarios.
| Scenario | How It Works | Estimated Threshold |
|---|---|---|
| Bundle exclusive | Free with the new LEGO PlayStation set | No extra spend beyond the console set |
| Spending threshold | Free when cart total exceeds a limit | ~£135 UK / ~$150 US / ~€150 EU |
Watch for official confirmation
Check LEGO.com and LEGO Insiders announcements in early October 2026 for the exact qualifying purchase or spending threshold.
Plan your cart in advance
Decide whether you are buying the LEGO PlayStation set or building a cart toward the rumored threshold. Add backup items beforehand.
Order as soon as it goes live
Gift-with-purchase promotions are while stocks last. Popular promo sets can disappear within days, so check out immediately once qualified.
Verify the promo applies
Confirm the 40899 set appears as a free line item in your cart before completing checkout.
Because LEGO Astro Bot 40899 is expected to be extremely sought-after, delaying your purchase risks missing out entirely. Gift-with-purchase stock is typically much smaller than regular set production runs.
Context: Why Timing Matters in 2026
The launch lands at an awkward moment for PlayStation. Earlier in 2026, Sony raised PlayStation 5 prices and announced the end of new physical game disc manufacturing, both of which triggered significant backlash from fans.
| Factor | Impact on the Promotion |
|---|---|
| PS5 price increase | Reduces discretionary spending appetite |
| End of physical discs | Community frustration, "no disc no buy" sentiment |
| Astro Bot popularity | Still very high, drives demand for the set |
| LEGO PlayStation launch | Creates a natural bundle opportunity |
Even with the headwinds, Astro Bot himself remains incredibly popular, and the LEGO collaboration is the first of its kind between the two brands. Fans are already hoping the partnership expands.
The most requested follow-ups in this style include Sackboy, Ratchet & Clank, and Kratos. If LEGO Astro Bot 40899 sells well, an ongoing PlayStation character line becomes far more likely.
