What Is LEGO Astro Bot 40899?
LEGO Astro Bot 40899 is the official LEGO × PlayStation collaboration set featuring Astro, the white-and-blue robot mascot from the ASTRO BOT PS5 game. It launched through LEGO and PlayStation channels starting October 1, 2026, and it is a physical display model — not a video game, expansion, or app.
Because the set is affordable, small, and tied to a beloved PlayStation character, demand spiked quickly after release. That demand is exactly why the keyword "LEGO Astro Bot AliExpress" is trending: collectors who missed the initial stock or live in regions without a LEGO Store are searching third-party marketplaces for the set.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Set Number | 40899 |
| Piece Count | 276 pieces |
| Official US Price | $19.99 |
| Recommended Age | 18+ |
| Release Window | October 1, 2026 |
| Key Features | Movable head/arms, interchangeable eyes, cape, propulsion effects, display stand |
Always confirm the listing explicitly states set number 40899 and the LEGO brand. Generic "robot building blocks" listings without the official set number are a strong signal of an unofficial clone product.
AliExpress vs Official Channels: The Comparison
AliExpress is a third-party marketplace. LEGO does not operate an official AliExpress storefront, so any LEGO Astro Bot listing there comes from independent resellers — some legitimate, some selling counterfeit "compatible" brick sets that closely imitate the original packaging and design.
| Channel | Type | Authenticity Risk | Price Expectation | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LEGO.com | Official | None | $19.99 MSRP | Best quality guarantee, Insiders points |
| PlayStation Direct | Official | None | ~$19.99 equivalent | Also hosts GWP promotional offers |
| LEGO Stores (retail) | Official | None | Regional MSRP | Stock varies by location |
| AliExpress | Third-party | High | Varies widely | Resale, import, or bootleg risk |
| Other marketplaces | Third-party | Medium–High | Often above MSRP | Scalper pricing common post-launch |
Official LEGO Store
- Guaranteed authentic bricks
- Standard retail pricing
- Access to promos and Insiders rewards
- Full missing-piece replacement support
PlayStation Direct
- Official PlayStation channel
- Confirms 276 pieces and stand
- May bundle Astro Bot as gift-with-purchase
- Regional availability varies
AliExpress Sellers
- No LEGO authorization
- Prices may look attractive
- Counterfeit risk on character sets
- Returns and support are limited
Popular gaming-licensed LEGO sets are among the most-cloned products on third-party marketplaces. A listing priced dramatically below the $19.99 official price, especially with altered branding or missing the 40899 number, is very likely a bootleg. Counterfeits typically use lower-quality plastic, weaker clutch power, and non-official instructions.
Step-by-Step: How to Buy Safely
If official channels are out of stock in your region and you are considering AliExpress or any resale marketplace, follow this sequence to minimize risk.
Check Official Stock First
Visit the LEGO product page and PlayStation Direct listing for set 40899. Restocks are common in the weeks after launch, and the October 2026 promotional window may offer the set as a bonus with qualifying LEGO PlayStation purchases.
Verify the Set Number
On any marketplace listing, confirm the product explicitly references 40899 and the official LEGO Astro Bot name and imagery. Absent or vague numbering is a red flag for clone products.
Research the Seller
Review seller ratings, transaction counts, and buyer photos. Prioritize sellers with a long history and real customer images of the actual sealed box, not stock renders.
Inspect Photos for Authenticity Markers
Genuine LEGO boxes carry the LEGO logo, official PlayStation licensing text, age marking (18+), and the piece count. Compare the listing photos against images on the official LEGO product page.
Compare Against MSRP
Anything far below $19.99 should be treated with suspicion; anything far above it is scalper pricing. Either way, waiting for an official restock is usually the better value.
Set a restock alert on LEGO.com and PlayStation Direct before turning to resale. For a widely produced set like this, official restocks tend to arrive faster than marketplace shipping — and at half the price of most resellers.
Red Flags: Spotting a Bootleg Astro Bot
Counterfeit brick sets are designed to look close to the original in thumbnail images. These markers help you separate genuine listings from clones on AliExpress and similar platforms.
| Red Flag | What It Looks Like | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Missing set number | No "40899" anywhere in title or box | Official sets always display the number |
| Rebranded name | "Robot Boy," "Space Bot," or generic names | Avoids trademark, signals clone |
| Too-low price | Well under $19.99 shipped | Genuine LEGO rarely sells below MSRP |
| Wrong box art | Altered colors, missing PlayStation logo | Licensing text is on every genuine box |
| No official instructions | Photos show generic booklets | Real sets include numbered official guides |
| Piece count mismatch | 200, 300, or "300+" vague counts | The official set contains exactly 276 |
Bootleg sets commonly suffer from brittle plastic, misaligned prints on Astro's face elements, loose joints on the movable arms, and stands that cannot hold the figure upright — critical flaws for a display model whose whole purpose is posing.

FAQ
Q: Can you buy the official LEGO Astro Bot set on AliExpress?
AliExpress is not an official LEGO sales channel. Some third-party sellers there may offer genuine resale sets, but listings for this product carry a high risk of counterfeit clone sets. Checking for the explicit set number 40899, official LEGO branding, and strong seller reviews is essential, and buying from LEGO.com or PlayStation Direct remains the safest option.
Q: How much does LEGO Astro Bot 40899 cost officially?
The official price on the LEGO product page is $19.99 in the US, with regional equivalents on other LEGO storefronts and PlayStation Direct. Prices far below this on third-party marketplaces usually indicate a bootleg rather than a bargain.
Q: Why is LEGO Astro Bot sometimes offered as a free gift?
PlayStation and LEGO have run promotional offers, starting around October 1, 2026, in which the Astro Bot set can be received as a gift with qualifying LEGO PlayStation purchases. These offers are limited by the promotional window and available stock, so availability depends on timing.
Q: Is LEGO Astro Bot a video game?
No. LEGO Astro Bot 40899 is a physical 276-piece building set inspired by Astro, the hero of the ASTRO BOT PS5 game. The set is a display model with a stand, movable parts, and interchangeable expressions, and it does not include or interact with the game.
